Head of Design

We are searching for a talented Head of Design to join our dynamic team at Blue Hat. If your idols are in the likes of Massimo Vignelli, Jonathan Yves, or Wally Olins, and if you are passionate about creating award-winning digital design deliverables such as websites and digital platforms, along with compelling brand identities and graphics that turn brands into lovemarks, then you're the perfect fit for our team. 

Location: Remote + Business Trips

Traveling: This role requires traveling periodically throughout the year (trips are about 1 week long).

Consultancy Hours: 40 hours/week

Reporting to: Co-founders


Requirements

- 10+ years experience in graphic and/or digital design- Experience in agency / consultancy environments with multiple projects and clients
- Experience in leading, mentoring, and inspiring creative teams, fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation
- Excellent project management skills, with experience in coordinating complex projects and managing multiple priorities
- A comprehensive portfolio showcasing a range of successful creative projects across various industries in both branding and digital media
- Strong sense of aesthetics and understanding of visual hierarchy, color theory, typography, and layout
- Keen attention to detail to ensure all project elements are executed to the highest standard.
- Adoption of a human-centered approach to design
-  Experience in managing client relationships, understanding their needs, and delivering solutions that exceed expectations
- Ability to work seamlessly with different departments to ensure a unified brand message
- Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite
- Proficiency in website design and familiarity with platforms like Squarespace
- Knowledge of AI tools for design (Adobe Firefly, Midjourney, etc.)
- Advanced research skills (Primary and Secondary)
- Staying up to date with the latest design trends and the ability to incorporate them into projects
- Animation skills are an advantage


Responsibilities

Project Management & Operational leadership

Manage projects and ensure their successful delivery with excellence and timeliness, including branding, digital, social media, and animation projects.
- Oversee the day-to-day work of the designers, managing collaborations with freelancers and other suppliers.
- Foster strong client relationships, acting as a liaison to align client needs with design team outputs.
- Interpret and analyze client needs to develop design briefs that meet their strategic business goals.
- Be accountable for all aspects of project delivery, ensuring quality and consistency.
- Ensure high performance and timely delivery from designers through operational oversight.
- Mentor, train, and develop designers, supporting skill growth and performance improvement.

Branding Projects

- Take the lead on branding projects from initial briefing to completion, ensuring alignment with client goals.
- Utilize primary and secondary research methods to gather insights.
- Lead brainstorming, workshops, and creative ideation sessions to generate innovative brand concepts.
- Oversee the design of brand identities and all associated brand touchpoints.
- Provide creative direction and supervision to the designers on branding projects.
- Ensure quality assurance on deliverables, preparing them for production and coordinating with suppliers.
- Approve and sign off on all branding deliverables.

Digital & Social Media Projects

- Design user interfaces for websites, eCommerce platforms, and mobile applications.
- Oversee digital projects from brainstorming to launch, ensuring quality and usability.
- Conduct quality assurance checks to confirm that digital deliverables are error-free and meet brand standards.
- Work with development platforms such as Squarespace to support project implementation.
- Provide creative direction for digital projects, guiding designers and ensuring cohesive visuals.
- Collaborate with developers and suppliers to support seamless project execution.
- Sign off on digital and social media deliverables, including graphics, animations, and visual assets.


Team Development & Strategic Leadership

Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders, including Team Heads, Social Media Executives, Photographers, Content Creators, and Developers, to align efforts.
- Lead initiatives to develop the skills of the design team, offering guidance and structured training.
- Stay ahead of trends in design, digital, and technology to incorporate best practices into the team’s work.
- Oversee photoshoots and other in-house or on-location design projects, ensuring brand alignment.|
- Lead workshops and capacity-building sessions for clients to strengthen their understanding of design principles and practices.
