Challenge

Zeisberg Lab is a laboratory performing medical research within the Göttingen University Medical Center in Germany. In response to the global pandemic, like most health research centers did, Zeisberg Lab has also shifted its focus and concentrated on finding solutions against the deadly virus - COVID-19. They commissioned Blue Hat for a 2D animation video to introduce their innovative technology to potential investors in order to find funding to proceed with the next phases of their research.

 
 

Intervention

Blue Hat handled the project in six main steps: we started off by mapping out a script for the video, then framed the storyboard for each scene, designed the graphic elements, made these graphics come to life through animation, researched the most suitable alternatives for the voiceover and background music, and finally synchronized everything with the subtitles.

The most challenging part of the process was to find the link between technical complexity and aesthetic simplicity. For instance, what seemed to be extremely detailed to designers, was actually deemed very abstract to scientists. Through this project, we also got to come up with a visual language and a script which is appealing and understandable to potential investors who may also be from outside of the medical field.

 
 

Results

This project proves that even the most technical subjects and terms can be simplified and conveyed clearly through design. Zeisberg Lab presented the final animation and proceeded to perform successful pitches to potential investors in order to continue with the next phases of their research.
